My Life Story in the Automotive Repair Business

My life’s story in the Automotive Repair Business

My name is Scott Sobeski, and I started as a mechanic in 1972 at a Chevrolet dealership in Darien, Connecticut. I graduated from high school in 1971 and went to Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. I was fortunate to grow up in Byram, Connecticut, with my cousins living close by, some even on the same street. I was able to drive to college every day because we lived so close.

One day, while sitting in class, I realized that my 1966 White Pontiac Tri Power GTO with a four-speed transmission and Cragar SS mag wheels was sitting in the parking lot.

At that moment, I realized that it was time to pursue my true passion for cars. My father, a machinist, meant that I was destined to work with my hands.

At 18 years old, I started by changing oil and undercoating new Chevrolet cars and trucks. My take-home pay was $80 a week – yes, $80 for a 40-hour week. The first time I went to Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, I fell in love with t-shirts. I would buy as many event shirts as I could afford with the little money I had.

When I got married, my new wife knew that I cherished my t-shirts. As time went by, I was a tall, skinny kid, but I started gaining weight from the delicious Italian dinners my wife made. Consequently, the shirts no longer fit me, but I kept them anyway. I still have a passion for cars, especially classic cars, hot rods, and NHRA drag racing. I would love to share my fifty years of knowledge with everyone. At one point, my auto repair business had over one hundred five-star reviews and was rated the number one repair shop in Stamford, Connecticut. I am very proud of my shop, Scotty’s Automotive Inc., and I plan on helping people find and work with fair and honest repair shops. It isn’t difficult to have a good relationship with a reputable shop. I can also answer any questions people may have about repairing and servicing their cars. My goal in making these t-shirts is to preserve some of the sayings from the people I worked with throughout my career, starting in the 1970s. I would love to see these sayings continue, as they are fun and harmless to people’s feelings. I was very fortunate to work at great dealerships with good mechanics and managers who taught me how to be a good person and a good mechanic. That’s how I want my T-shirt business to be remembered.
